Prestat posh chocolate spread, with Clementine

We got a 215g jar of this when Prestat still had a concession at the Harrods Brompton Road store (two jars for £10) and it's luxuriously stunning!!!  72% chocolate spread with bits of real Spanish orange clementines in - sort of like a chocolate marmalade!  It's FABULOUS!
Although this is not currently listed on the Prestat website, I have seen it listed on the Selfridges website here Selfridges for £6.99 (out of stock on 13 December 2017) and also on Amazon as a pack of two (again, out of stock on 13 December 2017)
If you can find this stuff, GET IT!!!

Easy Tasty Magic Salt Of The Earth

I found a jar of this in Harrods food hall on sale for about £3 so bought it to try it out.  It's a combination of rock salt and wild flowers and it's actually rather interesting!!!

I've tried it in soups which seems to suit my taste best and seems to be available in a few places.  Amazon have a few in stock here for £5.99 and it may be interesting to look here on Laura Santtini website which also contains various recipes too.
Definitely worth a try.

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate buttons

I bought these from a National Trust gift shop at the John Constable "Hay Wain" location in Flatford - and was completely disappointed with them.  They're chocolate buttons that, when melted into a hot milk, allegedly produce a mug of salted caramel flavour hot chocolate.
They don't.
You get a mug of hot milk with some chocolate melted into it.
Much better off just eating the chocolate buttons straight out of the tin!!!!!!  (which is what I ended up doing!)

Fortnum & Mason Lemon Curd

This stuff  is just GORGEOUS!!!  We got a 185g jar in the Fortnums online sale just to give it a try and we're glad we did!!!  It is now available in a 315g jar for £4.95 regular price - a tad expensive but worth every mouthful!!!
This is available instore and also through the Fortnums website Here

Harrods No 20 Traditional Coffee

This is a lovely coffee, using Colombian and Kenyan coffee beans.  Not quite as nice as the Founders Choice blend (which unfortunately Harrods no longer sells) but still a good coffee!
It comes in very snazzy storage tins and sells for £13.00 for 250g.  It can be bought at the Brompton Road store and online here

Neuhaus A L'ancienne hot chocolate

This is an unflavoured hot chocolate made by Belgian company Neuhaus and comes in a 230g brown and silver tin.  It's made with 2 teaspoons of powder to a mugful of milk and is VERY luxurious!!!  It's better than Fortnums and Whittards hot chocolate but not quite as good as the original Harrods hot chocolate - but I'd say equivalent to the new Harrods hot chocolate in the copper coloured tins.  I have only seen this for sale in the Harrods store on the Brompton Road in London for £7.50 and does not seem to be available online.  Anywhere....!!   (But if you ever come across this stuff, though, it's worth getting!)

Maille Cognac mustard

We found the Maille shop almost accidentally - it's located on Piccadilly, London, between Fortnum & Masons and the Ritz, opposite the Royal Academy in a corner shop on Piccadilly Arcade.  Website here Maille
They make mustards with wine instead of vinegar, giving the mustards a rather potent but seriously delicious tastes. We tried a small 108g jar of the Cognac mustard costing £5.50 which is gorgeous - slightly sweet, but very tasty

Back label with ingredients

Lid
This can be purchased online here Cognac Mustard for £5.50 per 108g jar

There is a very large range of Maille mustards both in the small jars and a slightly larger range of big jars (at least double the size of the small ones) costing £12 a jar.  Expensive but I suspect a worthwhile treat for the foodie connoisseur!

Saturday 12 August 2017

Fortnum & Mason Lemon Curd Piccadilly biscuits.

I originally reviewed these on this post HERE however Fortnums have now upgraded their recipe and tins..... the biscuits do taste rather more lemony which is good - and the tins are a lot prettier too!!!  They now cost £7.95 for a tin of a dozen biscuits and can be bought instore and online here Lemon Curd biscuits
Still yummy and still worth buying!!

Sunday 6 August 2017

Harrods Mango Chutney

This Mango Chutney comes in a 230g glass pot and sells for £4.25 a jar.  This stuff is truly YUMTASTIC!!!  The chutney is wonderfully Mango-y but with a lovely little kick from ginger, cayenne pepper and chilli powder.  It also contains garlic, cumin seed, fenugreek and nigella seeds.  You won't regret tasting this stuff!!!
It can only be purchased in the Harrods store food halls (meat/poultry hall) as it is not listed on their website.  (unsure about availability at airport stores)

Fortnum & Mason Flapjack biscuits

These are one of the new biscuits in the range (with the updated tins!) and are very tasty chewy flapjack style biscuits!  Very filling and dunkable!  It's a 200g tin containing approx a dozen biscuits costing £7.95.  Not my favourite in the range but not my least favourite either, you won't be disappointed with this one!
Available in all Fortnums stores as well as online here Fortnum & Mason flapjack

Harrods caramelised onion relish

This relish is rather yummy - and it goes very well with Scotch eggs!!!  (boiled egg inside pork meat, breaded and - I think - deep fried).  It costs £3.95 for a 220g jar and is available in the Brompton Road store and online at the Harrods website here Caramlised onion which also lists the ingredients.  If ordering from outside the UK, you'll need to check the import duty, if any.  But it's scrumptious!!!

Saturday 3 June 2017

Twinings Swiss hot chocolate drink

This chocolate is at the lower price range of the hot chocolate market - it's a tad on the watery side and rather sugary too, but pleasant enough otherwise.  It's available in most UK supermarkets (got mine at Tesco's) and also online here Twinings chocolate priced at £3.99 for a 350g tub

Fortnum and Mason After Dinner coffee

This is a really nice coffee!!!  Not quite as good as the Harrods but now that Harrods have rebranded their coffee range and only have one instead of four, the Fortnums coffee makes a good alternative.  The After Dinner Viennese blend comes in a 250g tin and is ground from Colombian and Guatamalan beans.  It costs £12.50 a tin and is available instore or online here After Dinner Viennese Coffee

Fortnum & Mason Salted Caramel Biscuits

Fortnums have recently rebranded their biscuit range and added two new flavours, this salted caramel being one of the new ones.  They're very tasty biscuits, although the caramel bits are a tad hard/chewy even when the biscuit has been dunked in tea/hot chocolate.  They come in 200g tins costing £7.95 and are available instore and online HERE

The River Hotel, Oxford

We stayed at this hotel practically by accident - we'd booked two nights at the Oxford Youth Hostel (which is about 100 yards away on the same road, right around the corner from Oxford Train Station) but due to the noise levels in the hostel (mix of noisy guests plus night time trains) impacting on Andrea's tinnitus, we were unable and unwilling to stay at the Hostel for a second night.  We'd noticed this hotel up the road, so looked them up on the internet and found they still had vacancies so we booked a room for our second night in Oxford.
We're VERY pleased we did!!!  It's a family run hotel in a Victorian house, and very comfortable, very quiet, friendly staff and a wonderful yummy breakfast!!!  The single room we had, had tea making facilities, private bathroom, TV and free wifi and the breakfast includes tea or coffee, fruit juice, cereals and as much of a cooked breakfast as you want.  AND it's only a 5 minute walk to the train station - I believe there's carparking available though (we don't have a car)
Their website is here River Hotel
It's ever so slightly off the beaten track, but we'd have no worries staying there again.

Mozart dark chocolate liqueur drink

This is an Austrian version of Baileys Irish cream - made with kirsch and Belgian chocolate and cream, in this case dark chocolate.  This stuff tastes divine either on its' own and also goes well as an addition to hot chocolate for extra pizzazz!!!  I've seen this for sale in Continental European duty free in airports and also in the Harrods department store in London.

Also available on the Harrods website as Mozart Black for £19 a bottle

The One restaurant

Chinese fusion restaurant The One is located in Botley Road, Oxford is a short walk from the train station (opposite direction from Oxford town centre)  We ate there twice in May 2017, on a Wednesday and Thursday night - the Wednesday, The One was packed!  The food is excellent and very well cooked and the staff are very efficient and friendly.  Both occasions, the meal cost close on £25 (main course, soft drink - 2nd evening, main course, pudding, soft drink)

Grilled tiger prawn with noodles and mango salad.

Menus and locations listed on their website here The One restaurant

Sussex Alberts Sussex Honey biscuits

These are the second variety of Sussex biscuits I've tried from this company...... they're good biscuits, but I still prefer the first one!!!  These are available at several outlets around the south of England, listed here Stockists

Fortnum & Mason Chocolate Pearl biscuits

This is the new rebranded biscuit tins - my original review is here chocolate pearl
The tin is available instore or online HERE for £7.95 a tin

Tuesday 21 March 2017

Fortnum and Mason Macadamia Nut piccadilly biscuits

These are my favourite in this Fortnum's biscuit range!!!  Approx a dozen biscuits in a tin for £7.25 and are totally SCRUMPTIOUS!!!  Definitely worth purchasing and highly recommended!
These are available instore in the Picadilly Fortnums & also the St Pancras store and also online HERE
Try them.  You'll thank me....!!

Harrods Praline hot chocolate

Harrods have now rebranded their hot chocolate range (as of early 2017) and at the time of writing have two flavours - this one being the Praline.  It comes in 300g bags within a copper coloured container, priced at £12 a tin.  The Praline makes a good flavour, although not as nice as their previous range of flavours (salted caramel, hazelnut, mocha).  But it's still a VERY good chocolate - made with hot milk, not the instant type, with either one or two heaped teaspoons of the chocolate mix.
This is available in their Brompton Road store in London and online HERE and presumably through their airport duty free shops at some point.

Sunday 12 February 2017

Mozart white chocolate liqueur drink.

This is an Austrian kirsch mixed with white chocolate cream (along the lines of Baileys liqueur) and is seriously yummy!!!  More commonly found in Continental Europe - seen often in Airport duty free - but is also available in Harrods in London though currently priced (Feb 2017) at £19 a bottle.

Monday 6 February 2017

Fortnum and Mason Golden Crunch piccadilly biscuits

This tin contains around a dozen biscuits made with honey, oats and coconut - these are a VERY nice biscuit!!!  Not quite my favourite of this range, but certainly in the top three!!  The price is £7.25 a tin and you won't be disappointed with them!!
These can be ordered online here Golden Crunch as well as instore at the Piccadilly branch, the St Pancras International station branch and probably at the airport duty free shops too!

Sunday 29 January 2017

Fortnum and Mason Clotted Cream Digestive Biscuits

These are the Fortnums "plain" clotted cream digestives and - although good biscuits - are the least favourite out of this range of seven biscuits.  Tin of around a dozen biscuits in a fancy green tin for £7.25 and can be purchased online HERE
